Frequently Asked Questions…
Do Kids Need Supplements?
Most people agree that today’s kids aren’t getting the nutrition they need. With the way kids eat, most need some help because many are living on fast food (which are so heavily processed, kids usually don’t get the vitamins and minerals they need), don’t get enough fiber, and even with a proper diet, our foods are depleted of nutrients because the soil is depleted. Add to this the increasing incidence of health challenges – such as childhood obesity, asthma, allergies and attention issues – and childhood may not seem so care-free after all.*
Essential Fatty Acids – for Brain, Mood, Eye & Learning Support
There is significant research that omega-3 essential fatty acids (they’re considered “essential” because your body can’t produce them on its own) have positive effects on brain development, improved learning skills, attention, mood, visual acuity and more. The most well-known essential fatty acids are EPA and DHA, which serve as the building blocks for healthy cells and brain tissue and are important for school-age children who may need extra support for concentration and learning – and DHA is a major structural fatty acid in the brain and eyes. Given the human brain increases approximately 3.5 times in mass between birth and 5 years of age, it’s of obvious importance that children consume adequate amounts of DHA to help support this period of rapid brain and eye growth and development, as DHA works to help ensure that the cells in the brain, retina, heart and other parts of the nervous system develop and function properly.*
Antioxidants – for Immune Support
Preschool-aged children have around nine colds per year, Kindergartners can have up to twelve colds per year, and adolescents and adults have about seven colds per year. In short, colds occur all year long, even in the summer-time. The fact is, children get colds – so it’s important to help strengthen your child’s immune system throughout the year. Antioxidants help to combat the formation of cell-damaging and immune compromising free radicals. These nutritional agents include Vitamins E and C, as well as numerous carotenoids (substances with nutritive properties) and a number of and flavonoids (a class of antioxidants) to help support optimum cellular and immune health and vitality.*
Getting Enough Fruits & Vegetables
With only 20% (1 in 5) children consuming the recommended amount of five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, adequate intake of the vital nutrients found in these powerhouse foods is becoming more difficult to achieve. Despite fruits and vegetables being rich in nutrients – that not only promote optimum health and may help to discourage the development of childhood ailments and health concerns – the average vegetable intake for 4 and 5 year olds is only two servings per day, which is three servings short!*
The Bottom Line… Your child’s health is of paramount importance, and so is finding not only quality supplements that support optimum health, but ones that taste great – such as yummy soft-chews and jelly beans – that not only help build better little bodies, but are vitamins your kids can’t wait to take!*
