These were the questions that drove me to research, investigate, and de-bunk the truths from the myths about Acai.
The Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) Berry is credited for promoting weight loss, detoxification, increased energy and improving the immune system. Many say the taste is a combination of berries and chocolate. The berry is about the size of a grape and comes from the Acai palm tree located in Central and South America. Local people have been familiar with Acai berries for hundreds of years. Acai’s nutritional value along with it’s healing and wellness powers are legendary throughout the area.
Packed with fiber, monosaturated fat, iron, amino acids and antioxidants, the Acai Berry is a power house for the health nuts. Containing more amino acids than red wine and blueberries, experts warn that products on the market can differ due to various harvesting and extraction techniques. The berry itself must be freeze dried immediately after harvest to preserve its nutrients. Hence, why supermarkets and health food stores usually sell the whole berries frozen instead of in the fresh produce aisle. Acai is also found in pill, powder and liquid form. It can be taken as a daily supplement or added to a morning smoothie.
Nutritionists recommend checking into the quality control for these products since people love to capitalize on new diet fads and willing victims. Quality control is key to an effective Acai product and without it you are not getting the advertised benefits for the berries. So look for trusted names in the health industry and always read labels!
Acai products are an easy and beneficial supplement that can be incorporated into your daily health routine. Keep in mind, the best way to lose and maintain weight is through diet and exercise, but Acai may provide an extra boost to your overall program, helping you reach your weight goals.
