A traditional plant known to encourage weight loss is found to be effective at reducing glucose levels. The Banaba leaf, native to India, Southeast Asia and the Philippines, has been the focus of clinical studies worldwide. This discovery shows promise for helping glucose-intolerant individuals to lose weight.

In the last decade, numerous Japanese studies have revealed Banaba’s ability to regulate glucose in the blood. Research suggests that this effect may be due to Banaba’s content of corosolic acid, although some scientists indicate that the entire leaf may exert several benefits. In a study published by the Edison Biotechnology Institute in Athens, Ohio, whole Banaba leaf extract helped manage glucose levels. Another study conducted at Florida’s Southwestern Institute of Biomedical Research found that higher amounts of corosolic acid aid blood sugar levels even more. The Banaba leaf is already popular for weight control, especially in Japan, where Banaba leaf tea is a common beverage. It provides people with glucose sensitivities new options for managing their weight.
